Educational Opportunities provided by Top of the Hill Apiary

Top of the Hill can provide various levels of instruction designed for the following age groups:

Preschool: Discussion centered on pollen gathering and basic hive operations with queen, drones, and workers. Program length approximately 20 min. This is an example of how a Preschool Presentation is delivered...

Primary: More in-depth discussion regarding bee gathering with queen, drones, workers, guard and housekeeping bees. Designed for children in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Program length approximately 30 min.

Intermediate: Increased awareness of gathering and hive operations to include elements not indigenous to the hive. Designed for children in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.Program length approximately 45 min.

Display/Exhibit: Programs may exhibit live bees contained in an observation hive or shipping cage depending on seasonal constraints.

Program Objective: to learn about honeybees in conjunction with an insect unit taught within the science curriculum to learn about pollen, nectar gathering, and multiple components of hive operations. The presentation at all levels includes student participation.

Pricing: Please contact Top of the Hill for Pricing. There is a minimum base charge that includes two Program Hours. Multiple levels of instruction can be accommodated within the two-hour time period. Longer program lengths are negotiable.

This educational program focuses on performance-based activities that lead to the acquisition of skills and content found within Maryland State Department of Education's Maryland Learning Outcomes.

Presentations are also available and structured for adults to meet the needs of Civic Groups, Garden Clubs, and similar organizations.
